There's no denying Our Revolution.
We saw it Monday night as thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters, many teary eyed, wouldn't stop cheering for him as he prepared to speak at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
Sanders' message resounded loud and clear. The richest of the rich, the one-tenth of one people percent, have been calling the shots long enough.
A Democratic presidential candidate who gave establishment favorite Hillary Clinton a run for her money, Sanders did it all through a grassroots movement funded by millions of contributions averaging just $27.
Announcing party platform wins on Wall Street regulation and breaking up big banks to name a couple, Sanders couldn't have drawn a more clear distinction between the Bernie movement to reclaim the country from the plutocrats -- and Republican candidate Donald Trump's illegitimate run for president, which only promises abuses as usual.
The absurd allegations during last week's Republican presidential convention about a Democratic elite rigging the system for its own benefit rang hollow and was almost laughable if it hadn't been so twisted and pathetic.
Republicans were actually accusing Democrats of the very crimes they have perpetuated against the American people over recent decades.
It's elist conservatism, of course, that has favored corporate welfare, through taxbreaks and loose financial regulation at the people's expense, which gave way to the 2008 Great Recession.
As Sanders said, something's wrong when the richest one-tenth of one percent owns as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent of Americans.
Something's wrong when 47 million men, women and children are living below the poverty rate.
As Sanders spoke at length eloquently and passionately before a lively, adoring crowd about the fight for social, economic and environmental justice, it was clear Our Revolution is just getting started.
Bernie has truly sparked a political revolution that as you say has just begun,it's impact can be felt in the party platform already. I wish he had won the nomination and I voted for him in the primary but am prepared to support and vote for Hillary. I really feel she will be a good president.
ReplyDeleteDitto. I voted for the Bern in primary and pulling for HRC !!
